Cape Fear Comedy Festival

The Cape Fear Comedy Festival in downtown Wilmington, NC, is a four-day event at venues including Dead Crow Comedy Room, Reel Cafe, City Stage, The Lazy Pirate, and Bombers Bev Co. The festival is headlined by Shane Mauss (Thursday at City Stage), Mary Mack (Friday at Dead Crow), and Reformed Whores (Saturday at Dead Crow), and includes more than 30 local and nationally touring comedians.

2nd Annual Topsail Spring Surf & Pier Fishing Challenge

Fisherman’s Post presents the 2nd Annual Topsail Spring Surf & Pier Fishing Challenge, an event that includes Topsail Island’s many miles of ocean for surf fishing, and its three fishing piers. The event features round-the-clock fishing starting at midnight on Friday and wrapping up 36 hours later. The heaviest bluefish, flounder, sea mullet, and black drum will earn bounties for surf anglers weighing in the heaviest five fish for each species (totaling 20 payouts).

2nd Annual Kids Walk

The Good Shepherd Center presents the 2nd Annual Kids Walk around Greenfield Lake. The event teaches kids how to give back to those less fortunate while raising funds and awareness to end childhood homelessness in the community.

Rims on the River

Rims on the River is an annual event featuring cars and motorcycles dating to 1980 and older lining the streets of historic downtown Wilmington. The event takes place on North and South Front Street from Orange Street to Red Cross Street and includes more than 600 vehicles. The Awards Ceremony (4pm) takes place at Bailey Theater Park (18 North Front Street) and is followed by a live concert at Ziggy’s (8pm) featuring American Speedway, Slippery Jake & the Bad Brakes, and The Dew Drops. The event also includes Pre-Show Parties (May 20) and a Cruise Day (May 22).

Carolina Beach Street Arts Fair

The Carolina Beach Street Arts Festival sets up on Cape Fear Boulevard and features more than 70 regional artists providing exhibitions, performances, and interactive fun. Hands-on activities include Visual Arts, Culinary Arts and Performing Arts. The inaugural Street Chalk Art Competition runs 10am to 4pm with winners announced at 4:30pm. The community art project this year is a six-foot painting of one of Stephanie Kiker’s coloring book images, with Jan Feury as the guest artist and guide. The Broccoli Brothers Circus performs at noon.

Paint Out at The Burgwin-Wright House

The Burgwin-Wright House Museum presents Paint Out, featuring artists painting in the French impressionist style “en plein air” in the museum gardens. The community is invited to observe artists at work (10am to 4pm, both days), and also vote on the People’s Choice Award.
